Sharing

The Sharing section in your gallery settings controls whether your gallery offers free digital downloads to your customers.

Updated over 4 months ago

You can find this area under:
Gallery → Settings → Sharing

1. Enable or Disable Free Downloads

At the top of the Sharing section, you will see a toggle:

  • Off → Free downloads are disabled, and the gallery is set up for photo sales

  • On → Free downloads are enabled, and customers will be able to download images at no cost

When enabled, you will be shown Settings, where you can find several additional ways to customise how free downloads work.

2. Resolution

This determines the pixel size of the free download offered to customers.

You can set:

• Resolution = 0

This means customers receive the original uploaded resolution, exactly as the photo was added to Photohawk.

• Custom resolution

You can specify a pixel size to standardise the output, especially when:

  • Multiple photographers upload to the same gallery

  • You want all free downloads to be the same quality

  • You want to limit resolution for social media sharing

Recommended settings:

  • High resolution: 3000 × 2000 px

  • Low resolution: 1500 × 1000 px

3. Adjective

This is a simple descriptive word shown to customers to explain the download quality. Examples:

  • “High resolution”

  • “Low resolution”

  • “Social media”

  • “Print-ready”

Choose a descriptor that best represents the resolution you are offering.

4. Upselling

Select Yes or No depending on whether you want customers with free downloads to see optional paid upgrades.

If Upselling = Yes:

When a customer selects free photos, they are added to a mini cart where they will see:

  • Paid products such as high-resolution downloads

  • Print products (via your print lab integration)

This allows you to offer free photos while still generating revenue from optional upgrades.

If Upselling = No:

Customers will receive only the free download with no product suggestions.
